Discover Florida this Summer

31 days until summer break is here. Then what will you do?  Personally , I can't wait  to explore this beautiful sunshine state.  I love Florida there are so many different places to see.  I'm sure you all feel that way about your home states.  If you are around Florida this summer here are some places we suggest for an adventure or vacation.

Summer fun in Florida
1.  St.Augustine- I could tell you a thousand different things to do in this historic city and you could still find more.  There is never a dull moment exploring St.Augustine.  A few of our favorites the St.Augustine Lighthouse, the Alligator Farm, Castillo De San Marcos National Monument, the splash park at the pier, Fort Mantanzas  and so many more great places.  If you are looking for some great breakfast we highly recommend Cousteau's where you can get waffles and milkshakes.  Seriously yummy!! If you are looking for fabulous seafood our top pick would be Osteen's they have some of the best shrimp around.  Looking to stay the night we love the Casablanca Inn on the Bay.

2.  The Space Coast- has so much to see and do. Our favorite place to stay is a little hidden gem called  Tuckaway Shores which is just AWESOME for a family visit.  Central to all sorts of family fun attractions and located right on the beach its just a perfect place to relax and enjoy the summer break.  Be sure and grab a bottle of your favorite Florida wine from East Coast Winery to enjoy as you chill on your patio or balcony.  Take the kids and learn all about our space adventures at Kennedy Space Center .  Another fun place for the family is the Brevard Zoo where you can kayak through the animal exhibits (AWESOME !) they also have rhino encounters and so much more to keep everyone excited.  Don't forget to hit the beach and the surf.  The Space Coast is known for some fantastic surfing.  Looking for a tasty beach breakfast we suggest Sand on the Beach in Melbourne and the Ocean Omelet.

3.  Destin - The Emerald Coast is one of this Florida girl's favorite hideaways.  So much so I'm headed back for a week this summer and CAN NOT WAIT .  Water Park lovers be sure and hit up Big Kahuna's which is a day well spent.  My kids young and old both love a great water park and Big Kahuna's got a thumbs up from everyone here.  Silly touristy things to do stop by the double decker bus full of mannequins and grab a bite to eat at a local favorite McGuires Irish Pub. If you get the chance visit Crab Island and enjoy at least one day with your toes in the sand enjoying that Emerald water. We like Henderson Beach State Park.

4.  Key West-  You don't want to miss this Florida favorite spend some time in the Keys.  Home to Bahaia Honda State Park which is a great place for photos, relaxing and even Florida camping.  The Keys have that island vibe and its a great area to spend a vacation.  Fort Zachary Taylor was a family favorite and budget friendly. The Dry Tortugas are on my Florida bucket but not in the budget my last trip.

5.  Florida Springs - there are so many Florida Springs there is no way I could ever name them all. These are some of this families favorite swimming holes. Juniper Springs has a dock to dive off of , beautiful water, and even an old water wheel you'll be sure and want to bring your camera for a few great shots. Fanning Springs is a great place to spend the day picnicking and cooling off.  Grab a tube and hit the Ichetucknee.  A new favorite is Homossassa Springs off of Crystal River and Three Sisters Springs where you'll not only find a great place to cool off but you can swim with manatees.  It's a very cool experience and although manatee season is in the cooler months we Love this part of Florida !

when in rome tour banner

Wow  my  life is busy! How about yours. Finding time to read do what? I'm looking forward to summer days by the pool and the count down to our summer break is on.  Then I'll have hot relaxing days by the pool and time to read plenty of great books. Here is a book blast brought to you by Promotional Book Tours for the new release When In Rome a sweet something novel by J. Lynn Rowan.

when in RomeLove isn’t always picture perfect . . . Atlanta-based photographer Kate Miller doesn’t believe in fairytale romance or relationships of the forever kind. She’s determined to build her own happiness through hard work and professional success. So, when the opportunity arises to join an exclusive fashion photo shoot in Rome, she jumps on the chance to gain international recognition. But she’s not counting on an instant attraction to the charismatic, sexy, and irritatingly arrogant director of the shoot. World famous, Domenic Varezzi is used to calling the shots. His clients trust his instincts and they’re willing to pay for the best. But while his career is thriving, his personal life has been lackluster at best. Hoping Kate could be the answer he’s been looking for, he’s determined to win her over. Every challenge she sends his way drives him to break through her tough-as-nails exterior to reach the vulnerable heart that matches his own. Surrounded by the beauty and magic of Italy’s “Eternal City,” a foundation begins to form that could lead to a lifetime partnership, both in business and in love. Until Domenic’s past comes back to haunt the present and threatens to destroy everything.

About the author:

better than chocolateLynn Rowan started writing stories as a small child, usually starring her favorite cartoon characters. Most of her work through middle and high school was filled with typical teenage angst and melodrama, and usually mirrored the books she loved to read. But eventually she found her own author’s voice and decided to seriously pursue a writing career. Historical fiction remains J. Lynn’s “first love”, but she has enjoyed the journey to becoming an author of romance and chick lit. She is a member of Romance Writers of America, the Central New York Romance Writers, and the Historical Novel Society. She is also a teacher who tries to instill a love of learning, reading, and writing in her students. When she’s not writing, J. Lynn enjoys travelling, gardening poorly but enthusiastically, studying various topics in American history for her own expertise, and channeling Julia Child every time she steps into the kitchen. A native of Oswego, NY, she now lives in Charlotte, NC, with her own Romantic Hero of a husband and the most adorable baby on the planet.

5 Books for your Spring Reading List

The weather is warming up and Spring is in the air hooray!  This girl loves the warmer weather. Here in Florida that means beach and pool days .  I love to sit under a big umbrella and read a great book. Don't you.  Here are five books that all get thumbs up from me. I think they make great choices for your Spring and Summer reading. Enoy.

"This post contains affiliate links . Click on them and make a purchase and I will receive compensation." Thanks!

1. Neanderthal Seeks Human - this novel is hilarious, witty, and AWESOME!  This book offers a breath of fresh air to the romance genre. I laughed all the way through.  The humor and wit get an A+, the characters get an A thumbs up to this author for something new and fun!

2.  The Selection Series by Kiera Cass -  Book 1 is the Selection this book reminds me of Hunger Games Vs. The Bachelor .  America Singers mother wants her to be in the Selection to win Prince Maxon's heart.   It could change everything for her family if selected.  America could care less about the fancy dresses, the palace and Prince Maxon she already loves someone else.  Twist , turns and romance. This series is light hearted and enjoyable.  Thumbs up Kiera Cass !

3.  Rare Form (Descended of Dragons) by Jen Crane . This book is available on Kindle Unlimited. This book takes you into a fantasy world of dragons, and magic.  Stella is having more than a bad day when her loved Mustang burst into flames.   Stella is a young college student not sure where she wants to go in life .  Then Stella learns about a magical realm, and enrolls in Radix Citadel for Supernatural Learning.  She makes friends, finds trouble and romance in this life she is building and we get to see it all transform as we turn the pages.

4,  The Queen's Poisoner is not at all what I expected.  This books main character is an 8 year old boy named Owen.  Owen is taken from his home and made a hostage by the King.  The characters and the plot in this book are well developed.  I can't wait to read more from Jeff Wheeler.

5.  In the Waning Light- is a romantic suspense thriller.  I love a good suspense. Meg Brogan is a real crime author.  She returns to her small hometown to write the story of her sister Sherry's murder.  It doesn't take her long to discover that things just aren't adding up in this case Shelter Bay has more than a few secrets.

Happy Chasing Happy by Jerome "Jay" ISIP

happy chasing happy tour banner

Life is busy here this month. February is a fun month in early education. Lots to learn with 100 days of school, Ground hog day, President's Day , Valentines.  We've had and got all kinds of things going on.  I love it.  That hasn't left me with much free time though.  The weather fairy has also forgotten that I live in Florida. If you are from the North you can laugh at my whining over our cold weather. Its OK really. But I am truly a Florida girl and this weather is for the birds as far as I am concerned.  One of my favorite things to do on a cold day is read.  Curl up with coffee and a good book.

Here is a new book about addiction and life Happy Chasing Happy by Jerome "Jay" ISIP.

Screen Shot 2016-02-09 at 6.37.32 PMThough Jerome "Jay" Isip now enjoys the success of being a professional MMA fighter, entrepreneur, and author, he is no stranger to the feelings of self-doubt, depression, and lack of direction that many people-- young and old, male and female-- struggle with at one point or another in life. This candid, autobiographical book tells of MMA fighter and accomplished champion Jerome Jay Isip's journey to find his identity and his own version of "happy" in early adulthood through self-destructive means like alcohol, a myriad of drugs, and other risky behavior, and how he pulled himself back from the edge of the abyss, finding the courage to live a life of clarity and purpose after discovering what true, lasting happiness in life is all about.

About the author:

Screen Shot 2016-02-09 at 6.28.32 PMJerome "Jay" Isip is a successful entrepreneur within several walks of life - finance, small business, e-stock trading, and athletics. Born and raised in Belleville, New Jersey, Jay was never one for academics. Rather than concentrating on coursework, he was instead distracted by the typical trappings other young men endure. Jay has always been more interested in enjoying life and those around him, which isn't going to get anyone accepted at a credible college or university. Even still, through all the self-destructive means and risky roller coaster of behavior, Jay stayed determined to choose his own career path, which would eventually lead him to becoming a business owner, a professional "mixed-martial arts" fighter. And now he has added the title of "author" to the list.

Celebrate "World Sword Swallower's Day" with Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Mark your calendars for February 27th and plan a day in St.Augustine , Florida.  Get ready to take in the wonders of sword swallowing.  Ripley's believe it or not will be hosting performances during to day of February 27th to pay tribute to this ancient art.  Check it out!

Ripleys Sword Swallowing Day
Celebrate "World Sword Swallower's Day" with
Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Ripley's St. Augustine Odditorium hosts free sword swallowing performances on February 27
Ripley's Believe It or Not! will pay tribute to the ancient art of sword swallowing by holding free sword swallowing performances as part of World Sword Swallower's Day on SaturdayFebruary 27. Two things to remember - that's solid steel and yes, it's all real.
Ripley's will showcase the greatest group of sword swallowers ever assembled and offer free performances for the public at several of its Odditoriums around the world.

World Sword Swallowing Day
Chris Steele performing at Ripley's St. Augustine
In St. Augustine, Chris Steele will be performing with his wife. Together they're the Captain and Maybelle - America's favorite sideshow couple - swallowing swords and performing other incredible feats. The show will start at 2:00 pm with an official swallow at 2:27 pm to coincide with the 2/27 date. Ripley's St. Augustine Odditorium is located at 19 San Marco Dr. The sword swallowing performances will be FREE, but admission is required to tour the Odditorium.

This will be the 9th annual World Sword Swallower's Day celebration, founded by the  Sword Swallowers Association International (SSAI) in partnership with  Ripley's Believe It or Not!

The event was created to recognize the handful of people in the world who can swallow swords, an ancient art that dates back some 4,000 years. The day also raises awareness of the contributions sword swallowers have made to the fields of medicine and science and raises money for esophageal cancer research.

Ripley's Believe It or Not! has long chronicled the incredible feat of sword swallowing. Sword swallowers were prominently featured at the very first Ripley's Believe It or Not! Odditorium at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933.
